You’ll need a 5G device and a recharge that enables you to connect to Telstra 5G. You’ll also need to be in an area that has 5G coverage.
The easiest way is to search for the specs of your phone online but there are a few other ways to identify this.
5G coverage is now rolling out in selected areas. In non-5G coverage areas, you’ll automatically switch to the 4G network. Check out our coverage map to find out more.
5G stands for fifth generation and is the next leap forward in mobile network technology. With 5G, downloads take seconds not minutes and streaming is seamless.
Downloading is faster with 5G, 5G relieves congestion in the network leading to faster data speeds and better performance (especially in crowded places). 5G also provides lower latency, meaning closer to real-time response (which is great news for gamers).
Boost Mobile is on the full Telstra 5G network. Telstra has done extensive EME testing on 5G and found the EME levels to be similar to 4G and Wi-Fi. The EME levels measured were found to be well below the safety limits and in many cases, over a thousand times lower. Telstra continually monitor their network and independent authorities conduct compliance audits.
4G isn't disappearing anytime soon. If you don’t have a 5G phone, that’s fine. You can still access super-fast and extensive 4G coverage on the Telstra Mobile network.
